Brendan Galloway has revealed how some words from Under-21s boss David Unsworth helped him prepare for his Premier League debut against West Ham United last weekend.
Galloway, who arrived from MK Dons last summer, was told just 90 minutes prior to kick-off that he would be starting at Upton Park and the defender went on to impress throughout the 2-1 victory over the Hammers.
The 19-year-old has been a regular in the Under-21s this campaign and Galloway has thanked former Blues defender Unsworth for the role he has played throughout his first season at Everton.
Galloway told evertontv: “He’s helped me massively. I’ve been with him the whole season and because he played in a similar position, he always talks to me about both sides of the game.
"Most of his career was played in the Premier League. He’s someone who has been there and done it.
"He is helping me get to where I want to be, so his experience is really valuable. Training under him every day, I’ve learned a lot during this season.
“Before the West Ham game, he came up to me and said ‘Whatever happens, just know that you are ready’. That gave me a lot more confidence going into the game.
“He’s helped me a lot this season, and I’m thankful for that.”
