Everton first-team coach Duncan Ferguson has been named the Chairman’s Blueblood Award winner at the 10th Annual End of Season Awards.
As is customary at the St George's Hall event, Bill Kenwright awards his own personal accolade to someone within the Blues family that he wishes to personally thank for their outstanding contribution to the Club.
And, with Ferguson proving as influential as a coach as he was as a player, the chairman has named him his Blueblood winner for 2015.
“I’ll never forget the time I heard that Evertonians do not choose, they are chosen,” explained Kenwright. “Well, this person was chosen. He is an Everton fanatic, one of the biggest Evertonians ever not to be born on Merseyside.
“He is currently coming out of his shell and telling the world how much he loves the football club. He is one of Roberto’s trusted first-team coaches. He is one who understands there will be good times and bad times, happy days and sad days.
“But he also knows there will always be Everton. And as long as there is an Everton, the history books will always mention the winner of this award: Duncan Ferguson.”
As a player, Ferguson gave 10 years to the Club across two spells – an 18-month stint with Newcastle splitting his Everton love affair.
In all he scored 72 goals in 273 appearances for the Blues, with iconic strikes in victories over Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as lifting the 1995 FA Cup.
Often unplayable on the pitch, his qualities as a coach have quickly become evident, first with the Academy. A softly-spoken gentlemen, Ferguson continues his association with the Blues by helping prepare the current crop of stars fulfil their potential.
Ferguson himself said: "It's absolutely fantastic. I am still in a bit of shock. I was listening to the chairman's speech and it was very emotional.
"The chairman has been a fan of this Club since day one. When you have a man like that running the Club, it is great for everyone. He always shows his passion and love for Everton and we love him. He is one of us, the man, and it is very touching to have that man supporting you."
