Roberto Martinez expects Leighton Baines to be fit to face Manchester City but has ruled Sylvain Distin out of Saturday's game.
Baines missed the FA Cup third round tie against West Ham in midweek, while centre-back Distin was substituted in the second half with a groin injury.
And speaking to the media ahead of this weekend's sell-out fixture at Goodison Park, Martinez confirmed it will be a case of two in, one out for his defensive personnel.
He said: "Compared to the squad we had against West Ham, Sylvain Distin who is going to be out for the Man City game, but I don’t think he will be out for too long as it doesn’t seem a bad injury.
"But we have got Antolin Alacaraz back from suspension and Leighton Baines I expect tone fully fit for the game. So it’s two in, one out."
Martinez must wait to welcome back midfielders James McCarthy, Leon Osman and Darron Gibson, and right-back Tony Hibbert.
"James is developing well," added the manager. "With him we need to make sure he’s fully fit. He is responding well and we need to make sure when he comes back he is strong and at 100% for all of the second half of the season.
"Leon Osman is working really well with Steven Pienaar, Darron Gibson and Tony Hibbert - they have all been progressing well in the last two or three days but it’s making sure that in the next three to four weeks we get everyone back fit for the second half of the season."
