Roberto Martinez believes a composed full England debut from defender John Stones was just another example of his ability to rise to the big occasion.
Stones started and played 81 minutes at right-back as Roy Hodgson's youthful side warmed up for Monday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland with a 1-0 friendly victory over Norway.
Martinez kept a close eye on his 20-year-old starlet and felt his display again highlighted the important role he is set to play for both club and country in the seasons ahead.
"I thought John looked very confident," the Blues boss told evertontv. "He looked like someone who had been in that position many, many times before. I thought he was very aware defensively and he helped to keep a very important clean sheet for the national team.
"But then, going forward, he was always composed, always showed a real understanding of how to keep possession, and I thought it was a very assured and mature performance in a difficult game, because obviously you're playing under scrutiny.
"It didn't surprise me though. We've seen that so many times since pre-season a year ago when he stepped in and showed real composure with that famous penalty against Juventus.
"There's never been a difficult moment for him in terms of adapting into an environment and being able to play the game – he's never been fussed by the occasion. The bigger the occasion, the bigger the response from John Stones. And I think that's going to be exactly the same throughout his career.
"Wednesday gave an insight of what he can produce consistently for England."
