It is widely reported in Tuesday’s papers that former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o is close to joining Everton.
The Daily Express, Daily Mail , Guardian, Daily Mirror and Daily Star claim that the 33-year-old Cameroon international is set to sign a two-year contract at Goodison Park.
The Liverpool Echo contains a feature article on Eto’o saying that if the Blues land Eto’o they will be signing a goalscorer who has been ‘one of Europe’s A-List forwards’ but Roberto Martinez is gambling on the four-time African Player of the Year’s ‘appetite and enduring fitness’.
Also in the Echo, Ian Snodin lauds James McCarthy. The former Blue says he would much rather have the Republic of Ireland international in midfield in preference over Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.
Elsewhere, the Echo reports that Everton are to receive an unexpected cash bonus as a result of a sell-on clause in Adam Forshaw’s contract. The Brentford midfielder, who came through the ranks at Goodison Park, is said to be closing in on a move to Wigan Athletic.
