Roberto Martinez has indicated that neither Romelu Lukaku or Kevin Mirallas will play against SC Paderborn on Saturday.
The Everton squad trained at the Benteler Arena on Friday afternoon with the Belgian pair being put through their running paces rather than joining in the football sessions.
And Martinez confirmed that the final friendly of the summer has come just too soon for the World Cup quarter-finalists.
He told evertontv: "There is a degree of risk if you put them into a situation so early. They've been training really well and are accumulating a lot of work.
"Playing in a game would have stopped them being able to get in a lot of that extra work and we didn't want to do that.
"They're not going to be a part [of the team] but they will get three sessions in while we're out here.
"That will accelerate the process of them being ready as quickly as possible."
Despite the groin problem that ruled him out of the games against FC Porto and Celta Vigo, Luke Garbutt has travelled with the party, though the left-back also remains a doubt.
One Blue almost certain to feature, however, is midfielder Mohamed Besic. After impressing in his two appearances so far, the Bosnian could now be in line for a first start for the Blues.
Seamus Coleman, who has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem, will not feature.
