Muhamed Besic could make his first appearance for Everton in Leon Osman’s testimonial against FC Porto on Sunday.
Roberto Martinez has revealed to evertontv that he is considering unleashing his new signing against the Portuguese giants in the Blues’ only pre-season fixture at Goodison Park (4pm kick-off).
“He [Besic] could be involved on Sunday,” Martinez said. “He has settled in really well. He and Ross [Barkley] came back at the same time and in different circumstances and for that reason they have created a strong bond straight away.
“Muhamed feels at home. It was a long deal [to complete] but, in the end, we got there. We are delighted to see a player like Mo Besic signing for us.”
Martinez also confirmed Barkley, fresh from signing a new four-year contract at Goodison on Tuesday, will also feature this weekend.
“He [Barkley] will play a part,” he added. “He has accumulated over eight hours work on the training pitch now, which is very good.
“He will be part of the team against Porto, not just because it is part of his programme but because it is a day to celebrate Leon Osman’s career and Ross wouldn’t want to miss that for the world.”
Right-back Seamus Coleman will not be risked against the 2004 European champions however, as he continues to work his way back up to full speed following a minor hamstring problem.
Luke Garbutt, who was withdrawn against Leicester City in Bangkok with a slight groin strain on Sunday, should be fit enough to play.
Martinez added: “Seamus is recovering well and is on the timescale that we expected. We are not going to risk him on Sunday and we are going to take a little bit longer with that one.
“Luke Garbutt has had a minor, minor problem and should be available for Sunday.”
