Darron Gibson has been named on the bench for Everton's pre-season friendly at Tranmere Rovers as Roberto Martinez names a mix of youth and experience.

The Irish midfielder is likely to play some part at Prenton Park and make what would be his first appearance since suffering a serious knee injury last October.

With Tim Howard yet to return following his exploits at the World Cup, Joel Robles is named in goal behind a defence of Tyias Browning, Shane Duffy, Sylvain Distin and Luke Garbutt.

In midfield, Gareth Barry is joined by youngster John Lundstram, while Steven Pienaar and Matthew Kennedy - a loanee at Tranmere last season - will man the wings.

Steven Naismith and Conor McAleny will play as the most forward central pairing.

A senior subs bench includes Gibson, Tony Hibbert, Leon Osman and 2013/14 Player of the Season, Seamus Coleman.
