Andy Spence hopes the two recent Continental Cup victories is the perfect platform to build on ahead of the third Merseyside derby of the season.
Everton Ladies defeated Doncaster Rovers Belles and Sunderland in their two previous outings but need all three points when they face Liverpool at the Select Security Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Blues are currently propping up the Women’s Super League table but boss Spence is confident that his side’s current predicament can be turned around.
He told evertonfc.com: “I am still calm. You look at the league table and obviously you don’t want to be looking up at teams but that is the situation that we are in at the moment.
“But I would be more worried if we weren’t putting in good performances – which generally we are – and if we weren’t a team capable of taking lots of points in this league, which again we are.
“So I am remaining calm. I work with the players on a daily basis and the girls are really positive. We are capable of winning against Liverpool.”
Morale amongst the players is high after already defeating the Reds this season, alongside the two recent Cup wins.
“Coming into the fixtures this week, we are in a good place from that point of view,” added Spence.
“It’s been a job well done by the players and we can go into the game against Liverpool with a lot of confidence based on what we have done in the previous two games. The players are feeling good about themselves and looking forward to the derby.
“It’s very tight – a couple of wins and suddenly you are looking comfortable. For us, it will certainly be a case of working hard and building on the things we have done well in our previous two games.
“If we can replicate what we have done then we can look forward to a positive performance and hopefully then a really positive result. That’s what we expect and that’s what we will be aiming for.”
Tonight’s derby kicks off at 6.30pm at the Select Security Stadium, Halton. Tickets are available at the ground ahead of kick-off, priced:
