Blues To Face Foxes In Bangkok

Everton has announced it will play a high-profile friendly against Premier League newcomers Leicester City in Thailand this summer.

The Blues will travel to the Suphachalasai Stadium in the Thai capital of Bangkok on Sunday 27 July (kick off 6pm local time/12pm BST) as they build up towards the start of the 2014/15 Premier League season.

Both clubs have strong links to Thailand, with the Blues going into the 11th season of a shirt sponsorship arrangement with Thai-based brewers Chang, while the Foxes' main partner is King Power.

The trip will be a welcome return for Everton to the South East Asian territory, nine years after they competed in the Premier League Asia Trophy against Manchester City and a Thai Under-23 national team. The Club also travelled to Thailand as part of their pre-season programme in 1989.

It will also be the first time since March 2004 that Everton have faced Leicester, who returned to the top flight last season after comprehensively winning the Sky Bet Championship.

Chief Executive Robert Elstone said: “We are delighted to be able to take the Club back to Thailand and against top-quality opposition.

"Leicester showed last year they have the infrastructure and resources to compete at the highest level and we look forward to testing ourselves against them as we get ready for what we hope will be another memorable campaign in both the Premier League and Europe.

“As many of our supporters will know, we have strong links with the people of Thailand and we look forward to renewing acquaintances, especially with our friends from Chang as we enter into the first year of a new sponsorship agreement.

"Chang-Everton is a true partnership that has been built on close-working relationships and we are hopeful this fixture can go some way to forging even stronger links.”

The Club is also set to announce the remainder of the pre-season programme – including the opposition and date for Leon Osman’s testimonial – in due course.
