Tyias Browning made his debut for England Under-21s in a 3-0 win against Qatar on Thursday evening.
The defender was deployed at right-back for his first cap at the level, as the young Lions kicked off their Toulon Tournament group stage with a comfortable win.
Manager Gareth Southgate handed fellow Blue Luke Garbutt a second successive start at left-back following Monday's 3-1 European Championship qualifying win over Wales.
Browning completed the full 80 minutes of the contest in France, going close to scoring with two headers while remaining largely untroubled at the back.
Garbutt was replaced on 74 minutes after causing Qatar problems with his delivery from the left.
Jordan Obita, Jake Forster-Caskey and Jordan Cousins supplied the goals to put England top of Group B.
They will now face Brazil on Monday before subsequent group games against South Korea (Wednesday) and Columbia (Friday).
The winners of Group B will face the team that top Group A - comprised of Chile, China, France, Mexico and Portugal - to determine the tournament champions.
