Howard Named In Usa Squad

by Adam Clark @efc_adamclark

Tim Howard has been named in a provisional 30-man USA squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

The goalkeeper's call-up comes after Everton teammates Phil Jagielka, Ross Barkley and Leighton Baines were selected by England earlier on Monday.

Should Howard make the cut for his nation's final 23, it would mean a third World Cup finals for the 35-year-old following his appearances in Germany in 2006 and South Africa in 2010.

USA have been pitted in a tough Group G alongside Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal, 2010 quarter-finalists Ghana and three-times winners Germany.

The tournament, which kicks off on 12 June, could see Howard reach 100 appearance for the States, with the stopper just three outings shy of an international century.

Former Everton loanee Landon Donovan is also named in Jurgen Klinsmann's initial party.

Each nation's final 23 must be submitted to FIFA by 2 June.
