Everton Giant Joe Royle is backing the Blues to produce another stellar Goodison performance in Saturday’s meeting between his two former clubs.

Manchester City have their eyes firmly fixed on the prize following a weekend of results which put the destiny of the Premier League trophy back in the hands of Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

But Goodison has proved a stumbling block for the top-flight’s elite this season, with the Toffees beating Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United – three of 13 home league victories achieved.

Everton are still chasing a Champions League place and speaking ahead of Saturday’s 5.30pm kick-off, Royle told evertontv: “We’ve proved already that we have nothing to fear. We can go at any team in the league.

“It’s been a common theme throughout the season that when we have played the big clubs we have done well. We haven’t always won but we have done well.”

Royle continued:  “They are teams I both played for and managed. I have a great affection for City and the City I managed is certainly a long way from this all-star moneybags team.

“But it has been spent well – they play good football and have super players. I love David Silva, Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo – they just have so much class about them.

“It’s going to be a very hard game. City have a knack of winning a game when they are not playing well and that’s because they have one or two magicians in their team.

“But yet again it is another barometer for how much Everton have improved and by the time the City game is over I think we will be looking forward to next season with great optimism.”
