What The Papers Say - 31 March

Monday’s papers feature match reports from yesterday’s 3-1 win at Fulham, with many centred on Steven Naismith’s match-winning contribution.

The Scot came off the bench at half-time to set up one goal and score another as Everton made it five straight league victories.

Naismith has told the Liverpool Echo that he believes the result puts the Toffees right in the mix alongside Arsenal for Champions League qualification.

The national newspapers praise Roberto Martinez, who made three substitutions that inspired Everton’s strong second-half showing.

The Daily Mail and The Independent salute the Spaniard, suggesting that Martinez is as good as Jose Mourinho when it comes to changing games. Everton have now scored nine goals from substitutes this season, the same amount as Chelsea.

Write-ups of yesterday’s victory in the Daily Star and Daily Express all lead on Everton’s push for European qualification.

Meanwhile, Tim Howard and John Stones are named in the team of the week in the Daily Mirror and the Guardian respectively.
