Meet Derek Houlton, the second winner in our We Go The Game competition.
Derek, who used to serve in the RAF, has been a regular at Goodison Park since Everton lifted the FA Cup in 1966 - and he still follows many of the same pre-match rituals as he did all those years ago!
As a young man based in Germany throughout the week, he would travel back across the continent by coach routinely every other weekend to watch his beloved Blues in action.
Now living in Birkdale, Derek still has the same passion for Everton, making the journey – albeit much shorter – with the Southport Supporters Club.
And never is he present at Goodison Park without his treasured scarf!
“I’ve had some knocks and lost some friends with being in the armed forces but I‘ve always had the Club to fall back on,” says Derek as he tells his unique story.
“Goodison Park is so special and I know that at the end of the week there is going to be 90 minutes where I can forget my troubles.”
The evertontv cameras followed Derek from his home to the game on Saturday when Everton overcame Swansea City. Watch the video above to discover more about Derek’s day.
The package was put together as part of the ‘We Are Evertonians' themed Season Ticket campaign, in which the Club launched a search to find out more about supporters, why they follow Everton and what makes matchdays at Goodison Park so special.
