Roberto Martinez has revealed Phil Jagielka will miss the game against West Ham United with a hamstring problem.
The Blues' captain will also be unavailable for England's friendly against Denmark next week.
Martinez said at his weekly press conference: “Phil Jagielka has felt his hamstring a little bit over the last two days and he is going to be missing the game at the weekend and obviously he is going to be missing from being available for England.
"I don’t think it’s gong to be a long-term injury but Phil is going to be missing for a couple of weeks.
"We informed the FA about the little problem Phil has so they had that information in view of them being due to announce the squad."
John Stones and Antolin Alcaraz are potential replacements for Jagielka, with the Paraguayan confirmed as fit.
Romelu Lukaku will be back in the squad after an ankle injury and being ineligible to face parent club Chelsea.
"Alcaraz and Lukaku are both fine," explained Martinez. "Romelu could have made the Chelsea squad and Antolin is working really well.
"The long term absentees, Darron Gibson, Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo are out.
"Lacina Traore got injured in the warm-up against Chelsea and today we are going to find out exactly what route we are going down in terms of the best possible treatment.
"We have been talking with his parent club to determine what’s the best way to approach the injury."
