Matthew Pennington and Matthew Kennedy have both been recalled from their loan spells at Tranmere Rovers.

The pair joined the League One side on initial 28-day deals in January, agreements which were later extended by a further month.

Both have now returned to Finch Farm where they have rejoined Alan Stubbs’ Under-21s squad in time to travel to Norwich for Tuesday evening's fixture.

Centre-half Pennington scored one goal in nine appearances, while winger Kennedy was involved in eight games.



The duo’s final outings for Tranmere was in the 3-1 win at home to Coventry City on Saturday.

Tranmere assistant boss John McMahon said: "Kennedy and Pennington have been recalled to strengthen their development squad.

"It is a blow because they're two very good lads and two very good players.

"The two kids who have been fantastic around the place, it's a credit to the way they've been brought up.

"And a big thank you to Roberto for allowing them to come out to us."
