Harry Charsley hopes his brace on Monday will put him in the reckoning for Thursday's Liverpool Senior Cup tie at Marine.
Everton Under-21s drew 2-2 at home to Sunderland at the start of the week and attention now turns to their quarter-final outing in the regional tournament.
Popping up with both of the Blues' strikes in the opening half, the 17-year-old was pleased with his input on a first second-string start this term.
He told evertonfc.com: "I was pleased to get two goals but disappointed we didn't get the win - that's the most important thing.
"It wasn't the best pitch but I've played on worse this season. We did really well in the first half but couldn't carry it on in the second. We didn't finish them off.
"It's one of my strengths, getting in the box and popping up with goals. I did it last season and I need to do it more to be successful.
"I've been on the bench a few times for the Under-21s this season, but I've not really played in many of the games, so I was happy to start on Monday and it was great to score twice."
The Wirral-born central midfielder is also a member of Kevin Sheedy's Under-18s squad.
And with a Youth Cup tie at Sheffield United scheduled for Monday, Charsley is eyeing involvement in two bouts of knockout action this week.
He added: "We've got the other game on Monday, so I'll be happy to play in either or both. I can't wait to see what happens.
"We’ve got a chance in the Youth Cup because we've got a good squad. It’s a difficult competition, so it’ll be interesting and hopefully we can win it."
Everton Under-21s head to Marine AFC on Thursday evening (7.45pm kick-off). Admission is priced at £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
Stadium address: The Arriva Stadium, College Rd, Liverpool L23 3AS.
