Gerard Deulofeu has returned from Spain hungry for more success at Everton.
Roberto Martinez revealed the ‘incredible desire’ the teenage Spaniard has exhibited as he nears a comeback from injury.
Deulofeu, the on-loan Barcelona starlet, travelled to his homeland to recuperate from a hamstring problem picked up before Christmas.
Before that setback he had begun to turn in performances the like of which had seen him labelled one of Europe’s hottest prospects.
“Gerard is such a positive young man and you can see he has missed being at Everton so much,” Martinez revealed to evertontv ahead of Deulofeu’s possible return to action at Spurs this weekend.
“It is an incredible reflection of what he is. When he arrived in the summer, he was a young man coming from Spain with an enormous talent. Now what we have is a young man coming from Spain with an enormous talent - and with an incredible desire to play for Everton.
“I am sure the fans will see the player they have seen growing and also a player with an incredible determination to be as good as he can be, and that can only be good for Everton.”
Martinez and his medical staff will monitor the winger this week as he strives to be fit in time to feature at White Hart Lane.
He added: “We have got the game on Sunday and we will assess him as the week goes on. He is fully fit from a medical point of view, it’s just a case of making sure he is match fit and ready to enjoy his football. We’ll find that out closer to the weekend.”
