Sylvain Distin says extending his contract at Everton until the summer of 2015 was a simple decision to make.
It was announced on Wednesday evening that the French defender has signed a new one-year deal.
Distin’s previous agreement was due to expire at the end of this season.
And the 36-year-old is delighted that he is able to continue enjoying his football with the Club he has represented since 2009.
“It was one of my targets to carry on playing, to keep fit and stay at Everton, so I’m really happy,” Distin exclusively told evertontv.
“It was an easy agreement but I thought it would be any way. I never had any intention to leave and I’m happy where I am.
“I feel comfortable and the manager and chairman are happy with what I am doing, so there was no question of doubt in my mind that we would find a solution.
“I’m happy here. The atmosphere in the dressing room makes me want to stay and at this stage of my career it’s important I enjoy my football. That’s the main reason why I’m still here, because I still enjoy it."
The announcement of Distin’s new deal arrives just two days after Leighton Baines also committed his future to Everton.
Baines stated the Club’s ambition as a significant reason behind his decision to lengthen his contract.
Distin has echoed his teammate’s comments, declaring his optimism that Everton will be playing European football next season.
He said: “That would be great and that is what we are trying to do. It’s not easy because we are competing against other clubs with big squads with a lot of financial power, but I’m confident.
“It would be great personally, for the fans and everybody at the football club. Playing European football is what everyone wants to do.”
