Roberto Martinez says he will make a late decision as to whether Lacina Traore is thrown into action against Liverpool on Tuesday.
Everton head to Anfield looking for their first away derby win since 1999, with victory enough to overtake the hosts into fourth in the Barclays Premier League table.
Giant forward Traore joined the Blues on loan from Monaco on Friday and is expected to travel to Merseyside on Monday.
"Lacina will arrive today and we're going to bring him into the squad as soon as he's ready," said Martinez.
"It's a little early to tell if he'll be able to make the derby or not but he'll be working with us from today."
Meanwhile, the Blues boss is closely monitoring a further half-dozen members of his squad all harbouring hopes of featuring in the 8pm kick off.
He added: "We've got a group of six players that we need to assess. They're carrying a few knocks and injuries. Phil Jagielka had to come off at half-time against Stevenage and we have Sylvain Distin, Antolin Alcaraz, Seamus Coleman, Steven Pienaar and Ross Barkley.
“We're doubtful they can make the derby, but they're not far away so maybe someone has a chance.”
