What The Papers Say - 21 January

Tuesday's newspapers are filled with match reports from last night's 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion, though many focus on Pepe Mel after the new Baggies boss picked up a point in his first game in charge.

Kevin Mirallas looked to have set Everton on their way to a third straight win with a first-half opener at the Hawthorns, only for Uruguayan defender Diego Lugano to head an equaliser with 15 minutes to go.

The Daily Mail do note, however, that the Blues have now gone 10 games unbeaten when Belgian Mirallas has scored.

Elsewhere, The Times mention Roberto Martinez's hunt for a new striker after it was confirmed following Monday's game that the Blues are seeking a work permit for Lacina Traore with a view to securing the 6ft 8ins Monaco man on loan.

The Liverpool Echo also believe Traore is looking increasingly likely to move to Goodison Park, and the same paper carries an interview with midfielder Gareth Barry, who has thanked Toffees boss Martinez for giving him the confidence to rediscover his best form this term.
