Sylvain Distin has returned to full training - providing Everton manager Roberto Martinez with a welcome fitness boost.
The veteran Frenchman has now come through several intense sessions and is likely to be in line for a comeback when the Blues travel to West Bromwich Albion on Monday.
Distin has missed games against Stoke, QPR and Norwich with a hamstring strain but has reported no problems since stepping up his efforts alongside the rest of the squad in Tenerife this week.
Martinez told evertonfc.com: “Sylvain has come through four sessions now and has had no reaction. That straight away has been one of the benefits. He has been able to work with the group with no effects to him.”
Martinez explained that Distin’s return was just one highlight of a hugely productive few days of warm weather training.
He added: “It has been terrific so far. It has been a unique opportunity to spend a lot of time together and to work on the training pitch. The facilities and the hospitality have made a perfect environment for our warm weather training.
“The players have benefitted because of the humidity and the weather. We have been working hard and getting the benefits from it.
“The boys who are carrying a little bit of an injury or a problem have been able to work extra time and it’s been very beneficial for the whole team.
“We have met a lot of fans based on the island and they have been close to the team while we have been working.
"It has been a great feeling to get that support even when you are abroad. So we say thank you for your support while we are over here.”
