Lee Carsley knows first-hand exactly what new signing Aiden McGeady can bring to his old side Everton.
Moments before Everton began their 2-0 victory over Norwich City on Saturday, McGeady was unveiled to the Goodison Park faithful as Roberto Martinez's first January signing.
Arriving from Spartak Moscow on a four-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee, the 27-year-old has Champions League know-how with the Russian giants and previous club Celtic, with whom he enjoyed six trophy-laden years.
Add to that 63 international caps and the Blues are receiving a player with a wealth of experience as well as quality - something to which Goodison midfield hero Carsley can attest.
"I played with Aiden for Ireland," he told evertonfc.com. "Our international careers overlapped by about four years.
"He's a good player, an out-and-out winger and is very tricky.
"I know he's had a bit of a tough time out in Russia, but he will be a terrific addition to the squad.”
Carsley has been a keen admirer of the Blues this term, regularly returning to Goodison as the Martinez era continues to flourish in his debut season at the helm.
And the Birmingham-born enforcer, who made 198 appearances for the Toffees, believes McGeady’s recruitment can further enhance the Blues’ push for a European return.
He added: “It’s been really good to watch. The change in style and change in attitude mainly. It’s really enjoyable.
“Aiden is someone who has a lot of talent, a lot of skill and is very different to anyone we have at the minute.
“He could be very effective for us."
