James McCarthy has backed international colleague Aiden McGeady to be a Goodison Park hit following his switch from Spartak Moscow.

McCarthy's Republic of Ireland cohort signed on with the Blues on Saturday, penning a four-and-a-half year deal.

McGeady has racked up 63 appearances for his nation since making his debut aged just 18 and brings an abundance of Champions League experience with both Spartak and Celtic.

And it's that time playing at the very highest levels that McCarthy believes can help his compatriot settle quickly into Premier League life.

"It's a good bit of business for the Club and I'm sure he'll do well here," the midfielder told evertontv. "I didn't have to sell the Club to him, I think he knows all about the Club and obviously he's delighted to be here.

"He's a tricky winger and I'm sure he'll do well."

McGeady was presented on the Goodison Park turf ahead of Everton's match against Norwich City, before taking his place among the 37,000-strong crowd.

He would have been impressed by what he saw too, as stunning efforts from Gareth Barry and Kevin Mirallas condemned the Canaries to a 2-0 defeat.

Afterwards, McCarthy had praise for both of his goalscoring teammates - and said the quality of the strikes was typical of the squad's current unwavering confidence.

"It was a big performance and obviously winning games isn't easy, so we're delighted to get three points on the board," he said.

"The goals were a different class. Gaz , it was an unbelievable strike and deserved too. And with Kevin's free-kick it was either him or Bainesy to hit it, and Kev steps up and produces another piece of magic.

"We won't get carried away too much but confidence is good at the minute. There's still a lot of games to go in the season though, so we'll take it a game at a time."
