Roberto Martinez was delighted to grab a January bonus when he signed Aiden McGeady.
There had been much talk of a summer move for the Ireland winger as his contract with Spartak Moscow neared its end.
But Martinez was able to bring forward the swoop and expects the 27-year-old former Celtic man to fit in perfectly at Everton.
He told evertontv: “We're delighted. Delighted first because it looked as though it was going to be a signing for the end of the season but we were able to reach an agreement with Spartak Moscow and we have him in now, which is the perfect time.
“That's because he needs a little bit of an introduction to the English game after such a long time in the Russian League.”
Martinez has overseen a shift in Everton’s preferred type of play since taking the reins at Goodison in the summer and sees McGeady as a player who will take to that like a duck to water.
“He's a perfect player for our style and the way we are as a football club,” said the boss.
“Aiden will fit in perfectly well and I think the timing couldn't be better. I'm really, really excited and delighted to get him over.”
