Boss Eyes Baines Boost

by Adam Clark @efc_adamclark

Everton boss Roberto Martinez says having Leighton Baines back will be 'an incredible boost' for his high-flying squad.

Baines, the Club's 2012/13 Player of the Season, hasn't featured for the Blues since fracturing his toe in last month's Merseyside derby.

The left-back was initially expected to miss up to six weeks but is now closing in on a return, with Martinez hoping to have him available for a run of four games in just 11 days.

That stint starts with a trip to Martinez's former club Swansea City on Sunday, and the Spaniard will assess over the coming days whether the 29-year-old is able to make his return in South Wales.

Speaking exclusively to evertontv on Tuesday morning, Martinez said: "I always said I thought Leighton would recover quickly and he's been doing really, really well. But obviously it's a bit early yet to see if he's going to be available for Sunday.

"I think we'll see over the next few days, but what is great to see is that Leighton is feeling better every day, that he's desperate to come back and that the squad is desperate to see him back.

"What we're hoping is that he's going to be fit for the Christmas period. I think it will be an incredible boost to the squad and it will be great to see Leighton running around again."

If you want to watch Everton in action this Christmas, tickets for the games against Sunderland (26 December) and Southampton (29 December) are on sale now.
