Arsenal (A) Sun 1 Mar 2015, 14:05, Barclays Premier League

by Adam Clark @efc_adamclark

Just seven days after one of the most gripping Merseyside derbies in the Premier League era, it’s back to Goodison Park again on Saturday as a former Blue brings his new side to do battle on the Blue half of Merseyside.

Mark Hughes spent a short spell as a Toffee at the turn of the century and brings 14th-placed Stoke to his old stomping ground with both sides looking to extend recent unbeaten runs.

Everton go into the clash having avoided defeat in their last five matches, while the new-look Potters are four without loss and looking to build on last weekend’s 2-0 home win over Sunderland.

But it’s Everton who Paddy Power makes the odds on 8/13 favourites and here we assess the best value our official betting partner has to offer…

Stoked Up

Everton have enjoyed the better start to this season and are one of only four teams who are yet to be beaten at home. In contrast, Stoke have managed just one win on the road this term, losing four. As a result, Paddy Power are heavily backing the Blues to prevail on Saturday and 8/13 is the price for a post-derby three points.

Pot Luk

Last weekend, Romelu Lukaku was involved in a running battle with compatriot Simon Mignolet, with the glovesman denying the striker time and time again. Then he sprung to life. The Belgian’s brace took his tally to seven goals in eight league games for Everton and so nearly secured those all-important Merseyside bragging rights. If you fancy the giant 20-year-old to pick up where he left off on Saturday, you can back him at 4/1 to net first or 11/10 to plunder past the Potters at any time.

Mira Image

Kevin Mirallas struck the winner in this fixture last season – bagging himself Everton’s Goal of the Season award in the process. The Belgian is also going into this one on the back of his first strike of the campaign last weekend and a repeat of that 1-0 scoreline from March, with Mirallas netting the only goal, pays out at 28/1 this weekend. You can also add the former Olympiakos winger to your betting slip at 11/5 if you fancy him to register at any time during the 90 minutes.

New Tricks

Saturday’s game sees two teams with two new managers and two very new styles going head-to-head. In seasons gone by, meetings between the sides have proven tight affairs but that may just go out the window this time around. Stoke's last two away games have ended in 3-3 and 4-4 draws, while few teams can match the number of chances created by the Toffees this term. If you can envisage a high-scoring Goodison thriller, you can bet on the game to have more than 2.5 goals at evens, while those expecting another close-fought battle can get under 2.5 goals at 8/11. If you’re uber-confident, you can get Roberto Martinez's men to win both halves at a tempting 7/2.
