The views on this page are taken from the local and national media and do not necessarily reflect the views of Everton.Unsurprisingly, Monday's newspapers focus on a gripping Merseyside derby that has been labelled the best in years. In the Liverpool Echo, James McCarthy speaks of his pride at the performance Everton produced in his first derby contest and says the Blues will grow from the late equaliser they conceded at Goodison Park. The same paper also reports that Roberto Martinez is awaiting news on Leighton Baines, who was set to undergo an X-ray on his foot after limping off early in the second half during the 3-3 draw. Everton in the Community's Big Society Award, announced by Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday morning, is also covered, while the paper's match report from Saturday's game is available here. England man Baines is a focus of attention in the national newspapers, with the Daily Mirror and another tabloid speculating the left-back could be out until the New Year if his toe proves to be broken. The Mirror, the Daily Express and the Independent also carry an interview in which winger Kevin Mirallas admits he feared being sent from the field on Saturday following his much-discussed tackle on striker Luis Suarez. A former Liverpool player is full of praise for Ross Barkley in the Daily Mail, with Jamie Redknapp using his column to compare the teenager to Reds captain Steven Gerrard. Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror's Football Spy suggests West Ham will make a move for Nikica Jelavic in January, with a loan switch or £5million permanent deal both mooted.
