With just one day to go until Everton lock horns with rivals Liverpool, Friday’s local and national newspapers are loaded with pre-match build-up.
The Liverpool Echo contains a feature interview with Goodison Park hero Duncan Ferguson, who predicts that Romelu Lukaku will have a big impact in his first Merseyside derby – just like the big Scot himself did in 1994.
Ferguson also states that Everton should not fear anyone at home and that the Blues are ‘quietly in the mix’ at the top of the table following the encouraging start made under Roberto Martinez.
The Daily Express contains a joint interview with the three Belgium players who could participate in Saturday’s game – Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas and Simon Mignolet.
Mirallas tells the paper that playing under Roberto Martinez is ‘more suited’ to his style, while Lukaku is predicting an entertaining game this weekend which will end with a 3-2 victory to Everton.
The players have been asked to describe each other in three words. Mirallas labels Lukaku as ‘Best-Young-Player.’
In the Daily Star, Toffees boss Martinez has been speaking about the job Brendan Rodgers did at Swansea and their shared philosophy for how football should be played.
Elsewhere, the Daily Mail have interviewed Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel who has told the paper that he thrives in the derby day atmosphere at Goodison Park.
