Derby fever has truly caught hold in today's newspapers with both the local and national media turning their attention towards Saturday's eagerly-anticipated clash.

In the Liverpool Echo, Blues boss Roberto Martinez says he is confident his young players have the right temperament to handle the big occasion at Goodison Park and promises not to let the magnitude of the game affect his team selection.

The Spaniard also reveals how his kit room staff have helped his preparations for the clash by hammering home just how much victory would mean to the Club and its fans.

In the Liverpool Post, Martinez suggests the derby is one of the most significant in years with the two teams separated by just three points near the summit of the Barclays Premier League table.

Former Reds defender Mark Lawrenson also uses his column in the same paper to discuss the 221st meeting of the clubs and predicts Ross Barkley could use it to "truly announce his arrival" on the Premier League scene.

In the Daily Mirror, Martinez explains why Saturday's game will be the biggest of his life, while former Toffees chief Howard Kendall discusses his glory days in an exclusive pre-derby interview with the Independent.

Elsewhere, Steven Naismith reflects on Scotland's impressive start to life under Gordon Strachan and backs his nation to cure their World Cup heartache by qualifying for the European Championships in 2016.
