Romelu Lukaku takes centre stage as the national papers build up to Everton’s clash with Tottenham Hotpsur.

The Belgian is referred to as a ‘football freak’ by a number of papers thanks to his constant quest to become the world’s best striker. The features reveal how he watches some of the leading frontmen in the game and analyses their playing styles to improve his own.

Lukaku also reveals that he has found a fellow obsessive in Toffees boss Roberto Martinez – most notably in the Sunday People – and that the Spaniard has had a bigger effect on his than his Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

Elsewhere, Gareth Barry is the subject of Stan Collymore’s column in the People. The pair were former team-mates at Aston Villa and Collymore has called for Barry to return to the England squad.

Barry has also been speaking on his belief that Manchester City – his parent club of course – are no certs to win the league this season.

In the Daily Star, Blues boss Martinez claims his bargain buys can compete for honours with the more expensively assembled Premier League big guns, while in the Sunday Post and Sunday Telegraph, it is written that he has raised the bar at Goodison Park and added Spanish flair to the Toffees' resolute defence.

Finally, one paper carries the transfer rumour that Manchester United will offer Wilfred Zaha plus £7million for Leighton Baines, while the Sunday People suggests Alan Stubbs is a surprise candidate for the vacant manager’s job at League One Notts County.
