Evertonian Grant Bell was crowned the FIFA 14 king at Liverpool's Bierkeller on Wednesday as hundreds of supporters turned out to take part in a special fan versus player tournament.
The loyal Blues in attendance got the chance to see first-team stars James McCarthy, John Stones, Seamus Coleman and Ross Barkley compete in a knockout battle of the EA SPORTS video game, with the latter pair progressing to the final.
And it was the younger of the duo, Barkley, who cruised to a 3-1 victory, earning the right to tackle Bell, the victor of an earlier tournament between as many as 64 fans.
However, that was where Barkley's good luck ran out as the 19-year-old crashed to a penalty shootout defeat, following a 2-2 draw in which he had produced the night's standout moment by notching a goal with his own in-game alter ego.
The event was celebrating last month's launch of FIFA 14 on PS3 and Xbox and the recent arrival of Chang beer to Bierkeller.
FIFA 14 arrives on PlayStation 4 on November 29 and on Xbox One on November 22. Pre-order today and don’t miss out. And don’t forget about all the carry over options available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners. For more information, click here.
