Unlikely Lads Stun Spurs

@Everton

There can't be too many games in the Premier League era where four goals have been scored by defenders.

Yet, that's exactly what happened on the day Everton strolled to a 3-1 win over Sunday's opponents Tottenham in April 2004.

Then-manager David Moyes recorded his first win against the Londoners as efforts from David Unsworth, Gary Naysmith and Joseph Yobo set the Blues on their way to three vital points in their unwelcome battle against the drop.

In fact, Spurs were blown away by a rampant Toffees side who were three goals to the good at half-time.

Unsworth headed in from close range on 17 minutes before Naysmith’s 25-yard free-kick doubled the lead soon after.

Just before the break, Yobo converted after goalkeeper Kasey Keller had pushed Thomas Gravesen’s set-piece into his path - completing an unlikely treble for the Toffees' rearguard.

Stephen Carr clawed a goal back for David Pleat’s team 15 minutes before full-time, but the right-back’s match ended early when he saw red just two minutes after brilliantly jinking his way through to net past Nigel Martyn.

Tottenham are again the visitors to Goodison Park on Sunday (kick off 1.30pm) and tickets for the fixture are now on general sale.
