Everton's players may well have cursed their luck when they pulled out an away trip to a fellow Premier League team in the League Cup third round of 2009/10.
They needn't have.
In fact, it took the Blues just 24 minutes to tame the Tigers, race into a three-goal lead and cement a deserved place in round four.
It was the Nigerian, Yakubu, who kicked off the rout just 10 minutes in, picking up a prodded pass from Diniyar Bilyaletdinov before taking a touch and neatly passing the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Matt Duke.
Nine minutes later it was two and again Bilyaletdinov was the architect, the Russian this time teeing up Brazilian forward Jo to loop a header high to Duke's left.
Not content with their early cushion, the Blues piled forward once more, and with barely five minutes more on the clock, the two goalscorers combined to play in Dan Gosling for an emphatic third.
With Phil Neville and Mikel Arteta both missing, Leon Osman was handed the captain's armband for the evening and it was fitting the midfielder should complete the rout 12 minutes after the break.
Having himself won a free-kick on the edge of the box, the Academy product found himself in the right place at the right time to prod home after new arrival John Heitinga's blast had ricocheted off the wall.
There was still time for Lucas Neill to make the first of his 15 appearances for the Toffees, while youngster Kieran Agard provided a lively late cameo after replacing Bilyaletdinov - one of just six Everton outings for the now-Rotherham striker.
