Tuesday's Liverpool Echo reports that Roberto Martinez has challenged his fringe players to prove they are good enough to become first-team regulars when Everton travel to Fulham in the Capital One Cup tonight.

The Spaniard is expected to rotate his squad as the Blues look to progress to the fourth round at Craven Cottage.

Martinez also reveals he embarked on a half-time rant at West Ham on Saturday after the players failed to live up to the high standards he expects.

The Blues trailed 1-0 at the break at Upton Park but twice came from behind after the interval to win the game 3-2.

In the same paper, former Blue Ian Snodin states his belief that Romelu Lukaku should be Everton's first-choice striker following his impressive debut in the capital, while also labelling two-goal hero Leighton Baines "the best left-back in Europe".

In the Daily Express, Martinez discusses Bill Kenwright's steadfast rebuttal of Manchester United's advances for Baines and central role in the capture of Lukaku, describing the Everton chairman as an example for other owners to follow.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star and Daily Mirror claim Everton have put contract talks with Baines temporarily on hold - but plan to offer the England international a 50 per cent pay rise as a reward for his loyalty.
