Today’s local and national newspapers look ahead to the weekend’s away trip to West Ham United.

In the Liverpool Echo, Roberto Martinez has told striker Arouna Kone his chance in the first team will come ahead of the Ivorian's potential return from injury.

Martinez has also praised Phil Jagielka for the role he has played as captain since taking over the job in June.

In the same paper, Howard Kendall writes in his column that he believes Gareth Barry can take a lot of confidence from an impressive debut last weekend and become a key player for the Blues.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mail report that Everton are the only club to confirm they will wear rainbow laces to raise awareness of homophobia in football this weekend, with other Premier League clubs yet to give their full support.

The Independent say that midfielder Darron Gibson is set to end his self-imposed Republic of Ireland exile following Giovanni Trapattoni’s exit as manager.

Martinez shares his view on the future of the English game in the Times and also says he will not sacrifice his beliefs and resort to long-ball tactics.

And finally, the Daily Star believe Manchester United will now turn their attention to Southampton’s Luke Shaw following their failed attempt to sign Leighton Baines.
