Evertonians turned out in force on Wednesday evening for the inaugural ‘Make It Everton’ event with Gareth Barry and James McCarthy.

Held in the People’s Club at Goodison Park, the exclusive occasion was arranged to thank the Club’s most loyal and dedicated fans for their continued backing of the team.

Fans who were amongst the first to purchase a 2013/14 season ticket had been invited to apply for places online, with approximately 100 applicants selected at random to attend.

Barry and McCarthy formed a top table panel which also included Blues legend Graeme Sharp and the Club’s Director of Communications, Alan Myers. The evening was compered by Media and Publications Manager Darren Griffiths.

Supporters had the opportunity to pose their questions, with the midfielders answering openly on a wide range of subjects.

Barry spoke about the comparisons in training methods between Roberto Martinez and the previous managers he had worked under, while McCarthy reminisced with a Scottish fan about the start of his career with Hamilton Academical.

After the question and answer session, the pair took time to meet fans, posing for photos and signing autographs.

Later in the evening, Alan offered an in-depth update on the current stage of the redesign of the Club crest and Sharpy talked about matters on the field, reflecting on Everton’s 1-0 win over Chelsea and even recalling his short spell as Oldham Athletic manager in the mid-1990s.

Supporters were treated to complementary food and drink which added to enjoyable night had by all those in attendance.

Sharpy said: "We have said all along we want to listen to the supporters about all different aspects of life at Everton and this was an ideal opportunity to do that.

“The guests had the chance to meet James McCarthy and Gareth Barry, who spoke very well, and talk directly to staff at the football club.

“The fans are very passionate about Everton and that was what the night was all about.”
