Gareth Barry will make his Everton debut against Chelsea this evening but South African Steven Pienaar misses out through injury.

Barry's fellow deadline-day arrival James McCarthy is named on the bench.

Blues boss Roberto Martinez is also missing striker Arouna Kone after the Ivorian picked up a knock to his knee.

The news means a new-look midfield of Kevin Mirallas, Steven Naismith, Ross Barkley, Leon Osman and Barry play in front of an unchanged back five - with Nikica Jelavic the lone man in attack.

For the visitors, Samuel Eto'o makes his debut and first ever appearance in the Premier League.

Everton:
Howard, Baines, Jagielka, Jelavic, Mirallas, Naismith, Distin, Barry, Barkley, Osman, Coleman. Subs: Joel, Heitinga, Oviedo, Deulofeu, McCarthy, Gueye, Stones

Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Cole, Luiz, Ramires, Mata, Mikel, Schurrle, Hazard, Terry, Eto'o. Subs: Schwarzer, Essien, Lampard, Torres, Oscar, De Bruyne, Cahill
