New Blues midfielder James McCarthy is the featured player in Saturday’s programme as the Blues welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park.

The Republic of Ireland international discussed his recent switch the Toffees and is hoping to mark his mark after reuniting with his former Wigan manager Roberto Martinez.

Speaking on his aspirations at his new club, McCarthy says: “Hopefully I can stamp my authority on the team and try and get as many starts under my belt as possible. But it’s not going to be easy. There are a lot of big names here. If I need to bide my time, I will bide my time, but hopefully I can take my chance when I get it.

“It’s going to be hard here. I need to try and work hard on and off the pitch, and when I get my chance, hopefully I can take it. I’m not here to go and just play games – I’m here to work hard and I am looking forward to it.”

Elsewhere, Martinez gives his thoughts on his deadline day dealings, while Phil Jagielka extends a warm welcome to McCarthy, Romelu Lukaku and Gareth Barry.

Alan Stubbs discusses the Under-21s’ clash with Newcastle on Monday, his new right-hand man and his book, while Kevin Sheedy talks about the Under-18s start to their campaign.

A couple of former players give their thoughts too, as Pat Nevin – who of course also turned out for Saturday evening’s visitors – give his ‘Us & Them XI’ and Joe McBride was a familiar face when Everton visited the Cardiff City Stadium earlier this season.

Finally, we have all the usual features like the quiz, the kids’ section, Snapshot and a detailed look at our West London-based opposition.

So for all that and more – at the price of just £3 – make sure you pick up your copy of the programme, available around the ground.
