Wednesday's national newspapers focus on England's 0-0 draw in Ukraine which has taken them closer to qualifying for next year's World Cup in Brazil - but there is plenty of Everton coverage in the local press.

Everton defender Phil Jagielka earned praise from Martin Keown in the Daily Mail following his impressive display alongside Gary Cahill in Kiev last night.

The Blues captain was rated highly with most newspapers giving him seven out of 10. Steven Naismith was also in action last night as Scotland won 2-1 in Macedonia and The Times have praised his performance playing as a lone striker.

In the Liverpool Echo, Jagielka has challenged new Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to have the same impact he had at West Brom last campaign where he scored 17 goals. The defender believes Lukaku can transform the Blues with his pace and power.

Fellow deadline day signing James McCarthy also features in the Echo and insists his £13m transfer fee won't affect his game, while Gareth Barry believes he can hit the ground running against Chelsea on Saturday despite a lack of match action.

Also in the same paper, Everton Under-21s manager Alan Stubbs believes the appointment of club favourite David Unsworth as his assistant will have a positive impact on the club's aspiring youngsters.
