What The Papers Say - 10 September

The views on this page are taken from the local and national media and do not necessarily reflect the views of Everton.

The focus in Tuesday’s national newspapers is England’s crunch World Cup qualifier in Ukraine – but there is still plenty of Everton coverage in the day’s local press.

In the Liverpool Echo, Roberto Martinez has described Romelu Lukaku as the player that can be ‘the little piece which completes the puzzle’. The Blues have drawn a blank a front of goal in their last two Premier League matches and although the Belgian international is ineligible to feature against Chelsea this weekend, Martinez believes the striker will offer an extra spark once available.

Also in the Echo, Martinez has been speaking about young Everton striker Conor McAleny’s recovery from a broken leg, suffered whilst on loan for Brentford at the end of last month.

In the same paper, Ian Snodin has been discussing his excitement at seeing a ‘new-look’ Blues against Chelsea this weekend following the arrivals and departures from the club on deadline day.

Snodin also believes Ross Barkley deserved his recent England call up, however this is a view which is not shared by the 49-year-old’s former Everton boss Howard Kendall.

The three-time Blues manager has told the Daily Mail that it is ‘too early’ to be considered for senior international football.

In the interview, Kendall goes on to discuss the summer appointment of Roberto Martinez, saying that the Spaniard has invited him to Finch Farm and it is an offer he intends to take up.
