Wednesday’s papers continue to report on Everton’s deadline day activity after one of the Club’s three new recruits, Gareth Barry, yesterday addressed the media at Finch Farm.

The Daily Telegraph feature quotes from the midfielder who explained that he knew his time at Manchester City was up even before the arrival of new boss Manuel Pellegrini.

In the Daily Mail, Barry has revealed just how eager he was to make a fresh start, whereas the 32-year-old has explained to the Times and Liverpool Echo that an impressive season at Goodison Park could aid his chances of an England recall with next summer’s World Cup on the horizon.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mirror say that James McCarthy’s move to Everton will guarantee the 22-year-old’s first club, Hamilton, a cash windfall. The Daily Record claims that the Scottish outfit will use the sell-on fee to help produce more young players of McCarthy’s quality.

Focusing on the departures at Goodison, the Echo includes quotes from Roberto Martinez about Victor Anichebe’s move to West Bromwich Albion.

In the Guardian, writer Andy Hunter has written a favourable piece about Everton’s recruitment on Monday evening, saying that an ‘overall strategy was identified and delivered at Goodison’.

Finally, the Daily Mail features a short story on how former Blues midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger has been forced to retire following a series of injury problems.
