Tim Howard does the honours as the featured player in tonight’s match programme.
The American shot-stopper tells us that he is enjoying the competition provided by summer signing Joel Robles, while also discussing how easy it has been for Roberto Martinez to settle quickly after his appointment in the summer.
But he also insists the Blues will not be taking tonight’s opponents, Stevenage, lightly.
Home form is home form and the desire remains to maintain the high standards set last season in losing only once at Goodison Park.
“I think your home record is always important,” admits Howard. “Any time you can pick up points or progress in the cups at home then you start to really build something. We showed last year that if you can win at home often then you can really build momentum.
“Personally, and as part of this team, I hope to be doing much of the same as last season; I.e. being a part of stringent defence that hopefully doesn’t concede too many goals. At the back we want to provide the base for us to crack on and get some points and also to progress here today in the Capital One Cup.”
Elsewhere in the issues, we have an exclusive interview with former Blues striker Kevin Campbell, who had to suffer his fair share of cup giant-killings in his career. He reveals how he used to prepare to face lower league opposition before discussing his confidence that Everton will complete the job at hand.
We also caught up with Stevenage midfielder and big Evertonian Greg Tansey to see how he’s preparing to play at the same ground his grandfather Jimmy once graced, while we also have the usual columns from manager Roberto Martinez and skipper Phil Jagielka.
Then there’s an in depth look at the opposition, a round-up of all the other Capital One Cup ties being played tonight and Luke Garbutt speaks about his recent call-up to the England Under-21s.
And all that for just £3! Pick up your programme outside the ground, in Everton One or Two, or from your local Liverpool newsagent. To order a digital version, click here.
