Jelavic &Amp; Barkley Start

by Matthew Gamble @efc_mattgamble

Darron Gibson misses Everton's game at Norwich with a knee problem.

New boss Roberto Martinez has decided that Nikica Jelavic will lead the line with Ross Barkley also handed a start in the Blues' Premier League opener.

Gibson suffered a knee injury in the friendly win over Real Betis and hasn't recovered in time for the Carrow Road clash.

The tried and tested defensive quartet of Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Sylvain Distin and Seamus Coleman will line up in front of Tim Howard.

Marouane Fellaini and Leon Osman are the central midfielders, flanked by Kevin Mirallas and Steven Pienaar.

Barkley looks set to operate centrally, behind the in-form Jelavic.

There are plenty of options on the bench, with Victor Anichebe, Gerard Deulofeu, Steven Naismith and Arouna Kone offering extra attacking threat.

Everton: Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Osman, Fellaini, Mirallas, Barkley, Pienaar, Jelavic. Subs: Joel, Heitinga, Kone, Deulofeu, Naismith, Stones, Anichebe.

Norwich: Ruddy; Whittaker, Turner, Martin, Garrido; E Bennett, Howson, Johnson, Redmond; Hoolahan; van Wolfswinkel. Subs: Bunn, R Bennett, Olsson, Butterfield, Fox, Tettey, Becchio
