Nikica Jelavic's recent goalscoring form has earned the Croatian his first start of the summer, as Everton take on Real Betis at Goodison Park.

Steven Pienaar is back in the XI having not featured in the Blues' last two games.

Jelavic's brace at Blackburn followed by a clinical strike against Real Madrid in Los Angeles means the 27-year-old is looking for his fourth goal of pre-season.

Elsewhere on the new-look Goodison turf, Tim Howard regains his place after sharing goalkeeping duties with Joel Robles.

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman are the full-backs in a familiar defence either side of captain Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin.

Ross Barkley, enjoying an impressive pre-season, starts in midfield with Darron Gibson, Kevin Mirallas, Leon Osman and Pienaar offering plenty of support for Jelavic.

Marouane Fellaini is only in attendance for the game after sustaining an infected cut in his lower leg.

Everton (to face Real Betis): Howard, Baines, Distin, Jagielka, Coleman, Pienaar, Gibson, Osman, Barkley, Mirallas, Jelavic.

Subs: Joel, Heitinga, Oviedo, Kone, Deulofeu, Naismith, Stones, Anichebe.

Real Betis: Andersen, Chica, Paulao, Perquis, Nacho, Matilla, Nosa, Juanfran, Cedrick, Verdú, Molina.
