Sharp: Blues Can Match Juve

by Matthew Gamble @efc_mattgamble

Everton legend Graeme Sharp insists the Blues have nothing to fear from Wednesday's friendly against Italian champions Juventus.

The Turin-based club are the first opponents on the Toffees' pre-season tour of the USA and their squad includes the likes of Carlos Tevez, Mirko Vucinic, Fernando Llorente, Gianluigi Buffon and the mercurial Andrea Pirlo.

But Everton have been impressing in pre-season so far with Sharp - who's watched every minute for evertontv - of the belief that they can take the game to Antonio Conte's side.

Sharp told evertontv: "The games coming up are mouthwatering matches against some of the best teams in Europe. Pre-season has gone well so far and the lads will be looking forward to the test ahead. Every game has been an improvement.

"Juventus are the biggest challenge so far, they will be strong but the boys will be looking forward to pitting their wits against the best."

Andrea Pirlo

The aforementioned Pirlo has developed a reputation as one of Europe's most influential performers in recent years following a string of top displays for club and country.

But Sharp insists he's more interested in seeing Everton's latest signing as he looks on from the commentary box.

"Pirlo is a fantastic player, everybody knows that," added Sharp. "But the important thing for Everton is to see how they compete against him.

"We saw our first glimpse of Arouna Kone at the weekend, Gerard Deulofeu is one I am looking forward to seeing as well. I am looking forward to the game, the players are looking forward to it and hopefully the people at home are as well."
