The Blues do flirt with The Times but only to say that David Moyes still lists Toffees pair Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini among his transfer targets.

More interesting reading can be found in the Liverpool Echo, with Jordi Cruyff talking about how his friend Roberto Martinez has the talent to be a success at Goodison Park.

The Dutch former Man United player gives the theory that defensive midfielders – the Spaniard’s former position of course – make tactically savvy managers, citing current Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti as a prime example.

The Echo certainly made the most of their interview with Cruyff. He is also featured in an article praising Martinez’s shrewd capture of Barcelona’s starlet Gerard Deulofeu. He claims that the style of football employed by Martinez is so similar to that of Barca’s that it makes sense for the Catalan giants to loan their youngsters to the Blues – something they are usually reticent to do.
