Arouna Kone could be in line for his first outing in an Everton shirt at Accrington Stanley on Wednesday evening (7.45pm).
The Ivorian striker signed for the Blues last week and has now had his first few training sessions at Finch Farm after being afforded extra time off because of his international commitments at the end of last season.
Other players in the same situation - Seamus Coleman, Nikica Jelavic and John Heitinga – could also be involved in some way at the Crown Ground.
Everton's assistant boss Graeme Jones told evertontv on Tuesday afternoon: "We've got a session this afternoon with Seamus Coleman, John Heitinga, Arouna Kone and Nikica Jelavic, so we need to assess where they are physically.
"They've had an individual session and a group session this morning, so we need to take any information from their work this evening to decide what kind of minutes we give them on Wednesday."
The return of the senior professionals means some of the young guns who travelled to Austria will now take a back seat. But Jones explained that ought to act as extra incentive for those looking to impress.
He added: "We had five youngsters, six including Mason Springthorpe in the Austrian trip, which I think is a great incentive and experience for them. They did fine and maybe we'll be cutting that number down to one or two with the other pros coming back. But the one or two that stay, they've earned that."
