Women Look For Russia Response

@Everton

England Women continue the search for their first points of Euro 2013 on Monday evening when they face Russia.

Everton Ladies captain Jill Scott is set for her second start of the tournament, while her Blues counterparts Rachel Brown and Toni Duggan will be looking to get in on the action after being unused substitutes in the Lionesses' opener against Spain on Friday.

Hope Powell’s side got their campaign off to a disappointing start in Liopeng when they were defeated 3-2 by Spain after a stoppage time own goal from Lincoln Ladies goalkeeper Karen Bardsley.

Spain had taken an early lead before Eniola Aluko hit back almost immediately after latching onto a defence-splitting pass from Scott. Spain got in front once more with little over five minutes left to play but Laura Bassett appeared to have rescued a point for England with late equaliser.

However, there was one last twist in the tale when, deep into injury time, Bardsley failed to claim a cross only for the ball to unfortunately strike her on the head and deflect into the goal.

England will look to get an all-important first three points on the board with a win against Russia, who were defeated 3-1 by Group C leaders France on Friday, and there are good omens in place for Powell’s side.

The last time England met Russia was at the 2009 European Championships in their second group match of the tournament, as is their match on Monday. They had lost their opening fixture, as they did on Friday, and they went on to record a 3-2 victory despite falling 2-0 down inside the first 23 minutes.

Kick-off for England v Russia is at 5pm and the match can be watched live on BBC2 from 4.30pm.
